New rules for vans in international transport from July 1, 2026

From July 1, 2026, new EU legislation will come into effect, impacting international transport operations involving vans.

Going forward, vans over 2.5 tonnes will be subject to driving and rest time regulations – rules that currently apply to trucks. This includes requirements such as tachograph registration and compliance with fixed driving and rest periods for drivers.

What do the changes mean?

The new regulations will affect how transport operations are planned and carried out.

In practice, this may result in:

  • Longer transit times on certain routes

  • Increased requirements for planning and documentation

  • Reduced flexibility in the execution of transport assignments

  • Price adjustments due to changed operating conditions

What does this mean for you as a customer?

For customers, the changes may mean that transport solutions in some cases need to be planned differently than before.

Situations may arise where:

  • Delivery times are affected by regulations regarding driving hours and mandatory breaks

  • Correct packing and handling become even more important

  • Alternative transport solutions may be relevant to maintain flexibility
