Drone-enabled supply chain
Drone technology is potentially an important part of the future logistics chain for time-critical medical deliveries.
In collaboration with Norrköping Airport, Aero EDIH, Space2ground and several other partners, Jetpak has contributed to the development of processes that make drone transport feasible in a regulated airspace.
A recent simulation between Norrköping and Gotland/Visby included:
- A complete SORA safety assessment (SORA is the European safety assessment framework used to evaluate risk levels for drone operations.)
- Visualisation of the drone route
- Validation of handling, loading and transfer procedures
- Regulatory groundwork required for future real flights
This work is now forming the basis for the next phase, where the goal is to carry out real drone flights using the same safety and regulatory framework established in the simulation.
How a drone-supported logistics chain can work
Pick-up and first-mile transport
Jetpak collects medical samples at the hospital, performs necessary checks and transports the shipment to the designated drone hub.
Security and pre-flight handling
Screening, weight and volume control, secure packaging and preparation for drone loading.
Drone flight between airports
A controlled, risk-assessed flight between two airports or hubs — such as Norrköping ↔ Gotland.
Arrival handling
Ground personnel receive the drone, unload the shipment and transfer it to a Jetpak courier.
Last-mile delivery
Transport from the airport to the laboratory, including hand-over, confirmation of delivery and preparation for analysis.
Drone solutions are intended to complement — not replace — existing logistics networks. By combining established courier and air-based services with long-distance drone flights, it becomes possible to reduce lead times and support hospitals and laboratories with faster and more efficient flows.
